Data-Driven Research for Child Health

Dr. Andrea Evans

Andrea is a general pediatrician at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) and an epidemiologist at the School of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on child welfare and health disparities and she is dedicated to improving health outcomes for pediatric populations impacted by social determinants of health through policy-focused research. Through her work, Dr. Evans uses participatory research principles to authentically work with people with lived experience and communities. Through her experience as a pediatrician with children and youth receiving child welfare services, her personal experience, and her background in epidemiology, she is focused on improving the health and well-being of children receiving child welfare services and foster children.

Dr. Ashley Quinn

Ashley is a social worker, and assistant professor at the University of Toronto Factor-Inwentash Faculty of Social Work. They received a PhD and completed a Joseph-Armand Bombardier SSHRC scholarship for their research on the factors contributing to the cultural identity and the development of community-based outcome measures for Indigenous families involved in the child welfare system.

Dr. Quinn is Anishinaabe and Irish, is a former Crown Ward, and belongs to the Marten Clan.

Dr. Quinn is director of relational practice for CanFos. Relational practice is the principle of involving people in research in a fair, authentic, reciprocal, and respectful way. By including people who use and are affected by research results
in the research process, the connections between research and communities are deepened.

Dr. Eunjung Na

Dr. Na is a Research Associate at CanFos Lab at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario Research Institute. She received her PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences from the University of Ottawa and is currently completing a postdoctoral fellowship in Rehabilitation Science at the McMaster University. She has experience working with large health datasets, retrospective chart reviews, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and community-engaged research. In her current role, she plays a key role in data management and provides critical research support across multidisciplinary projects.
